I ate a little late for me, around 8:30 pm. I was seated right away and greeted quickly by the waitress. I ordered the Tropical Lifesaver cocktail, and got the jumbo shrimp scampi. Those shrimp sure were big! Everything tasted great, including the key lime pie! The price was very reasonable, the good was great, and the service outstanding.
The key lime pie tasted like it was a low fat custard infused with lime juice. Horrible.
Based on reviews, I had planned on eating here. It's also conveniently located between my hotel (Silver Palms Inn) and Duval Street. Even better, when I visited the Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Gardens, the man working there gave me a coupon for a free slice of key lime pie!
After a year of wanting to try Duffy's, my daughter and I finally found an opportunity to have dinner.
Great experience! Tasty food, home made, nice atmosphere, reasonable price!
The quality of the steak was mediocre, the beer selection quite boring and only a few extremely low end California wines (which were barely better than vinegar and a bottle costs less to buy than Duffy's charges for a glass). Beringer is sadly a high end wine here.
In the end, two meals of unsatisfactory food, a bottle of beer and low end wine were almost a hundred dollars.
Had a great experience. Was seated immediately and ordered drinks right away (which cam quickly). Had alligator tail for a starter and it was decent (just not sure if it's what I prefer. The stuffed shrimp was pretty good, and with the bread and soup (lobster bisque) I was pretty full. Husband had "Jumbo" shrimp scampi. It tasted delicious however didn't come with pasta or anything and the shrimp weren't that jumbo.
Overall was impressed. Worth a stop.
If the management cares, the staff will get trained, the wine selection improved, and dinnerware implemented which fits the caliber of establishment Duffy's attempts to portray. If they don't care, nothing will improve and eventually Duffy's will fade away as so many other establishments have recently done.
As to the service, it was typical Key West (sadly I'm a local, too). It's the "we can ignore you and not really care because you'll spend your money or someone else will" attitude. The busser would attempt to remove dishes any time the utensils sat for more than 30 seconds, and both the server and hostess lacked personality (though our waitress was coldly attentive).
We had dinner here, when we walked in we were soaked from riding our scooters there, we got caught in a rainstorm. Our waitress brought us both towels to dry off. The food was great. I never tried conch before. Had the conch fritters and bisque. Absolutely delicious. I had Florida lobster tail and hubby had prime rib, both entrees were done to perfection.
The steak was cooked properly. That's the only good thing I can say. The salad dressing was on the side, as was the béarnaise sauce, both served in tiny plastic cups. Definitely not class.
