Good luck with this park folks! It's not well run.

Bring your check book. If Key West is your thing enjoy. There are better options all over florida for families.
Worst service ever. Unbelievable amount of unintelligent throughout in every person that works at this facility. It's a wonder of that with this incompetence, that the park has lasted this long. A product of demand exceeds the need for service no doubt.
This place is great. People are friendly. grounds are clean. We had no issues. Going back again for sure.
Waterfront camp sites but not all of them have electric. It gets very windy tent camping waterfront especially if your trying to cook. Beautiful views and friendly staff. Very clean bathrooms and showers. A nice store, outdoor pool table, swimming pool and a TV to watch; they had arcade games but they weren't working. Not strict on size of tent or number of tents per site. There is a bus stop nearby.
The disturbance the owner is speaking of was the "security" guard calling the police because we re-entered the park after we parked on the street like we were asked to. We had JUST told the guy we would be right back. We told the guard what site and last name of registered guest were staying with, apparently unsatisfied that we belong and feeling threatened the "security" guard called 911. Why were we parking on the street? Because after paying $157.40 for additional vehicle parking we were asked to park the rental Tahoe on the street because there was no room. At the time, I looked around at all the empty spaces and figured they must have some reservations coming. They did refund the $ for the additional parking, it only took the staff 40 minutes to figure out which is why I speak of the intelligence of these folks. In addition, there were many, many spots all week at the campground around us empty. But with all their wisdom, they choose to make us move the vehicle out of the park each night instead of allowing us to pay the fee. This park is so mismanaged that is it very sad. Another example, they made the owner of our coach drive the whole park to get to his campsite. The result was scratches down the side of the coach. Our friend had a detail crew come out and detail the bus to try and buff out the scratches to no avail. They do not keep the trees or shrubs kept back in what is already a very tight campground. Again, it's not rocket science folks, cut the bushes back, don't take a 42' coach on a tour of the park to get to their space and ask them to make hairpin turns. You don't have to worry about us coming back, it just wont happen anyway.
Hey the bright side of the event were the policemen we were honored to talk to were sympathetic to our plight and were very friendly, they were very happy we came down to Key West and thanked us for doing so. They explained that the guard has to run a lot of the riff raff off that hangs out around the park and the surrounding neighborhood is riddled with crime. I was happy we did not have anything happen to our rental car after speaking with them.
We made our reservation months in advance, requested a waterfront site and were so excited about our first trip to Key West. We had kind of built it up in our minds and based on pictures etc. When we arrived, we were given a site that was directly next to the launch ramp (see our picture of this site vs the picture on Google of the same site?) This site backed up to a small cove with docks and opened to the launch ramp with no privacy. The water was not clear clean water, it was murkey. We were disappointed and went to the office to request to be moved to a waterfront site out on the point. Our request was met with a bit of attitude about how we could not like this site, it was one of the best sites, a favorite site, etc. Then were told no we couldn't move, then were told yes we could switch with someone coming in that would be "happy to get that great site". Can't count how many times we were told about how great the site was. Didn't want to get into it, but the truth is I'm not sure who travels to the Keys to spend 160/night to look at a murky launch ramp with no privacy and view of docks and whoever is launching or washing down a boat at the moment. Coincidence that nobody ever came into that site the whole time we were there? After we got into our new site and got over the initial disappointment we had a great view, a great time, and many good experiences with the employees who were very nice and friendly and erased our initial bad start. Come with realistic expectations is all I can say. It is expensive, the sites are small and tight, the surrounding area is commercial, there are many tent sites, it is not the lush serene experience we unrealistically expected. There are not many choices for RV parks in the Keys, and none on Key West so much appreciation to Boyd's for even being there and operating a good RV park.
